I've heard it mentioned in conversation, I've seen it on twitter but until three days ago I had no idea what it actually is.
Pinterest is an online virtual pinboard that allows you to collect, organize and share all the beautiful and inspiring things you come across whilst surfing on the web.
Planning a wedding and no idea where to save all the photos, wedding cake ideas and venue options? Simple, create a Pinterest board and all your friends and family can comment and give their opinions. Pinterest allows for you to browse anyone else's pinboards, generating a level of creative sharing impossible on any other platform.
Images shared on Pinterest are known as pins.

Currently Pinterest is ranked #4 on Hitwise's top 10 Social Networking Sites, which means that Pinterest had more visitors than Yahoo! Answers, LinkedIn and Google +. Facebook, YouTube and Twitter are ranked above Pinterest respectively. (http://www.hitwise.com/us/datacenter/main/dashboard-10133.html)
Pinterest is still an invite-only site. To create a Pinterest account you need to request an invite and 'Ben and the Pinterest team' will place you on their 'waiting list.' Yesterday I received my official invite to become a member of the Pinterest community. So here goes, I'll keep you posted on how I get along and how you can follow me on Pinterest, in the meantime request your own account.
Happy Pinning!
